Meet Mupenzi Egide, working as a Sales Operations Manager at Uzima Chicken Ltd in Rwanda.

1. Can you briefly introduce yourself and your role at Uzima Chicken?

My name is Mupenzi Egide and my current position is Sales operations manager at Uzima chicken Rwanda.

I work in the sales operations department; however, my primary focus is on dispatch operations.

2. How long have you been working with Uzima?

I started working at Uzima chicken Rwanda on July 1st 2020, which means I have completed five years with the company this July.

3. What does Uzima’s mission (making smallholder farmers healthier and wealthier) mean to you personally?

Uzima chicken’s mission means a lot to me. It empowers Rwandans to lift themselves out of poverty and improve their livelihood through income earned from selling eggs and chicken meat produced from Uzima chicken birds. This mission also plays a vital role in combating malnutrition among children and within Rwandan families at large. These goals are achieved through the consumption of nutritious eggs and meat of the chickens that farmers raise themselves from Uzima chicken.

4. What’s the biggest impact you believe your team has made towards driving Uzima’s mission?

In my current role, my team and I ensure our birds are reliably delivered to clients wherever they are. This work is vital to building trust, expanding our market reach, and fulfilling Uzima’s mission of making smallholder farmers healthier and wealthier. Special thanks to strong teamwork and close collaboration with other colleagues across the company who make this possible.

5. What do you enjoy most about leading your team?

Dedication, hard work, and the belief that nothing is impossible when there is commitment. I also learn the value of mutual respect and the understanding that everything we achieve is made possible through the collaboration and contribution of every team member.

Seeing members of the team taking ownership of responsibilities, knowing what needs to be done and actually doing it without being told every day is fulfilling.

6. How do you keep your team motivated, especially during challenges?

I work closely with them—sharing responsibilities, offering guidance, and being present through challenges. I believe in leading by example, supporting them in daily tasks, and providing practical advice to help them overcome any obstacles they face. This hands-on approach builds trust, teamwork, and resilience.

7. What’s one lesson you’ve learned on the job that has shaped your leadership?

One of the greatest lessons I have learned at Uzima chicken is the value of collaboration (Team work) . We have gone through many tough and diverse challenges, but I have seen how having strong, purpose-driven capabilities enable people to grow and become effective problem-solvers.

If you had to describe Uzima in one word, what would it be, and why?

“Transformational because Uzima chicken is not just about business. It’s about changing lives, empowering communities, and creating lasting impact.
