Job summary
As Uzima’s operations grow, Uzima seeks an adept, agile, and dedicated feed mill manager to double the company’s production of animal feeds. This is a role with significant opportunity for growth and exposure to sister businesses and is a good fit for someone who has mastered the fundamentals of animal feed production.
The Manager is responsible for all activities related to the production and quality of feeds, including receipt of raw materials, processing/mixing, bagging, inventory, cleaning, and maintenance. This role requires a “Strive for Excellence, Reject Good Enough” attitude that focuses on reaching excellence in all things feeds. The Manager is responsible for scaling a growing team and working closely with sales team and other key departments to ensure quality is maintained at a high level.
Key KPIs
● Production of feed in line with cost targets, including tight management of overheads and raw materials sourcing
○ Raw materials storage loss not to exceed 0.5%
○ Milling loss not to exceed 0.5%
● Production of high-quality feeds that promote growth and strong results in breeder stock and commercial flocks
● Adherence to biosecurity procedures
Duty and Responsibility:
Raw Materials Sourcing and Management
● Work with the Operations Director to develop raw materials standards and specifications
● Responsible for ensuring all raw materials received meet specifications as set out and strict adherence to quantities
● Support on raw materials sourcing as requested
● Follow up for drivers, workers and or loading unloading workers
● Communicate with Operations Director and Sourcing team weekly regarding raw
materials stocks and requirements to avoid stockouts
● Manage expiry dates or validity of materials to ensure quality
Production
● Responsible for all feed production SOPs including mixing times, bagging procedures, etc
● Ensure production is in adherence with recipes approved by Operations Director
(quantities measured by Store Keeper measure recipes and are added properly to
machines)
● Implement strategies to minimize stock shrinkage (<0.5%) and production loss (0.5%)
● Oversee management of machines, including ensuring preventative maintenance programs are
adhered to, recommending modifications as needed
● Ensure proper weights for all feed produced
● Review production plans with necessary stakeholders to agree on volumes to be produced
● Solicit feedback from other departments regarding continual improvements to feeds
Inventory
● Work closely with Store Keeper and Finance to manage the inventory maintained on site
● Ensure cleanliness and organization of the feed mill area, including
● Manage inventory on a FIFO basis
● Comply with all stock takes and take responsibility in case of missing stock
Leadership and Staff Management
● Recruit and manage laborers as needed to assist in the feed mill operations; proactively
communicate additional hiring needs to the Operations Director
● Identify staff development gaps and conduct training to improve performance and management
● Manage the team’s performance by determining targets/KPIs, managing planned activities, and
reviewing key performance areas and control of direct subordinates
● Provide leadership, training, recruitment, selection and motivation for Operations team
● Operate as a key leader on Production team, including independently engaging with other
department leads, providing needle-moving business suggestions, and identifying new cost-savings strategies
● Provide feedback in a constructive way to peers, subordinates, MD and Operations Director
Reporting
● Provide weekly feed production reports to Finance, reconciling any differences in a timely manner; provide weekly feed report to Management on key activities of the feed mill
● Provide weekly production outlooks to key stakeholders to align production plans
● Review monthly reports provided by Finance to identify trends and opportunities for improvement; implement strategies for cost reductions
Quality Assurance
● Manage relationships with testing facilities to ensure cost-effective testing measures
● Oversee all quality assurance and control activities, including maintaining testing databases, feed traceability reports, and adherence to Quality Assurance SOPs
● Rapidly communicate any quality issues to Management and necessary stakeholders
● Manage any quality issues with finished feed, including product recalls, remixing, or other adjustments required to ensure high quality production Additional responsibilities
● Biosecurity: Ensure the biosecurity of the Feed Mill and Feed Mill Staff; periodically review and improve adequate bio-security program
● Training: Provide training to other departments (e.g., Sales, CI) as requested on feeds topics
● Execute related duties as given /assign by the manager
● Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
Qualifications and Requirements
● The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Feed Mill Technology, Animal Nutrition, Production Engineering or related field or proven aptitude and natural ability
● At least four or more years’ experience in similar roles in a busy commercial setting
● Broad knowledge of Feed Mill technology
● Good ability to manage and lead teams

Job summary
The Clerk of Works plays a critical role in overseeing construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to project specifications and contract conditions. This position is essential for maintaining the project’s quality, safety, and progress.
Key KPIs
1. Inspection Compliance:
Percentage of Inspections Completed According to Schedule and Specifications. Target: Achieve a minimum of 98% compliance with the scheduled inspections.
2. Quality Assurance:
Number of Quality Non-conformities Identified and Corrected.
Target: Minimize non-conformities to less than 2% of total work inspected.
3. Design Support:
Design Integration and Improvement Feedback.
Target: Contribute actionable design suggestions and improvements in at least 75% of poultry house projects.
4. Land Acquisition:
Successful Land Acquisition and Compliance
Target: Achieve 100% successful land acquisition and ensure 100% legal and regulatory compliance.
5. Project Management:
Adherence to Project Timelines and Budget
Target: Maintain project timelines within 5% of the original schedule and stay within 95% of the approved budget.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Construction Inspection and Compliance
- Inspect construction work regularly, comparing it with project drawings and specifications.
- Measure and assess the quality of building materials.
- Identify defects and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Ensure the Contractor’s compliance with project specifications, drawings, and the work schedule.
2. Progress Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor construction progress and promptly report updates to construction managers, architects, and clients.
- Keep meticulous records of work conducted on-site, including inspections and findings.
- Verify that all building regulations, health and safety standards, legal requirements, and ecological guidelines are met.
3. On-Site and Office Duties
- Split responsibilities between on-site and office work as needed.
Attend to operations that, if carried out incorrectly, would result in non-immediately apparent deficiencies.
- Transmit queries, requests, and urgent questions to management and the Contractor on the same day, using telephone or other suitable means.
- Maintain a “Site Instruction Book” for the Architect and Consultants to record on-site instructions.
4. Project Progress Management
- Review the Contractor’s progress schedule, record work progress, and identify any delays with accompanying reasons.
- Anticipate upcoming tasks and ensure all necessary details and information are available well in advance.
- Examine all project drawings and documents to identify discrepancies and report potential issues to management.
- Resolve minor on-site issues to ensure efficient project progress while keeping the relevant parties informed.
5. Quality Assurance
- Ensure the required standards of quality and accuracy in work and materials are maintained.
- Refer subpar work or materials to the Architect for inspection and decision.
- Attend weekly site meetings and represent the Uzima Chicken management and Architect at the Contractor’s periodic work measurements.
- Confirm instructions given to the Contractor in writing and request confirmatory written Architect’s Instructions.
6. Materials Inspection and Record Keeping
- Inspect materials on-site to confirm they meet the Consultant’s specifications.
- Maintain comprehensive records of on-site events, including visitor logs, material deliveries, received drawings, and other significant occurrences.
7. Progress Reporting
- Prepare weekly progress reports, highlighting key on-site events and milestones achieved.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports on the actual project progress compared to the approved work program.
8. Land Acquisition and Verification
Conduct land searches and verify the suitability of land for construction projects.
Liaise with landowners and relevant stakeholders to ensure the land is free from encumbrances.
Perform due diligence to meet all legal and regulatory requirements for land acquisition.
Negotiate land purchase agreements and oversee the related legal documentation.
Ensure land documentation is accurate and compliant with legal requirements.
Assess the site’s suitability for construction, including soil quality, drainage, and accessibility.
Identify and mitigate potential risks related to land acquisition.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and environmental standards.
9. Design Support for Poultry Houses
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other design professionals to provide input and feedback on the design of poultry houses.
- Ensure that poultry house designs align with practical requirements, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Verify that designs meet cost constraints without compromising quality or functionality.
- Maintain detailed records of design-related decisions and correspondence.
- Seek input and advice from poultry experts to enhance poultry house design.
- Provide training and information on design aspects to project personnel.
Qualifications
Diploma in Building/Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
Strong problem-solving abilities.
Proven experience managing projects from inception to completion.
Exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in English and Luganda

Job summary
The Hatchey officer position is responsible for ensuring that all procedures of hatchery management: including preparing sops, manpower, egg receiving and grading, egg prewarming and setting, egg candling and egg weight loss, egg shell temperature, egg transfer and hatching, vaccine and vaccination and all aspects of waste management and culling management of the hatchery and hatchery equipment and machine handling management. The Hatchery officer is responsible for achieving industry standardsfor hatchability of high quality DOCs to increase the profitability of the Company.
He/she communicates with the production and supportive departments in order to make the operation smooth. Then by doing this he/she assures to fulfill the operation requirements to maximize production.
Key KPIs
Below 1% of broken eggs
Sellable doc Should be above STD
Below 2% customer mortality of Doc
NO more than 1% of reject rate for DOC
100% vaccination score
Tight inventory of eggs, DOC, hatchery equipment, materials, consumables, vaccines etc..
On time report and good planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Egg Receiving
o Ensure timely and safe receiving of eggs at the hatchery.
o Ensure proper receiving, inspection , grading and sorting of hatching eggs and recording according to the grade of eggs
o Make standards for settable eggs and follow up
o Timely communicate with the breeding farm and finance if there is difference between delivery note and eggs received.
- Egg Storage
o Ensure appropriate room temperature and humidity for eggs based on storage duration
o Ensure all egg refrigerators and air conditioners are well maintained
o Always counting and balancing.
Setting, Transfer, and Hatching
o Ensure second point of Quality control on setting eggs
o Ensure oldest eggs are set first (first in first out)
o count and record the number of eggs set to incubator and the remaining and reconcile.
o communicate with and deliver table eggs and crack eggs for sale
o Ensure proper pre-warming of eggs from cold store
o Ensure efficient , fast, smooth and timely egg transfer and candlingo Ensure proper selection and grading of DOCs
o Ensure proper disposal of hatchery waste
o Ensure all layers males are dead before they leave the farm for disposal
o Ensure proper and timely cleaning of equipment after hatch and transfer.
o Monitor targets for setting temperature, humidity, CO2/ventilation, and turning
o Monitor dry and wet bulb thermometers and compare them with screen and calibrator o Ensure all wicks in the wet bulb thermometers are clean
o Improve hatchery environment cleanliness
o Make priority of assignments by discussing with line manager
o Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of hatchery and surroundings
o Ensure proper reporting of DOCs as finished goods and tracking of consumables/equipment from store
o Keep records of all eggs coming to hatchery, going to store and incubators and calculate if there is any difference in a regular way
o Monitor shift program for hatchery attendants and vaccinations
o Ensure a report of weekly (from Sunday to Saturday) egg stock that is received from breeding eggs in cold stores, the discarded eggs which are table, crack & broken and report on time.
o Keep recording of daily DOC no DOC wastages
o Proper filing of hatchery SOP records,
o check the expiry date of vaccines while receiving.
o make sure that the vaccine with short shelf life has to be used on time.
o count and record the vaccine used and reconcile after vaccination
o make sure the vaccine storage is safe and to recorded each hour interval o make sure that the level of nitrogen is standard and follow up and Order for procurement before it reaches the minimum level.
o make sure that distilled water, blue die and other vaccine related items are available for a minimum of one month consumption.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Production and Management or any related field is essential
- At least Two years’ Work Experience
- Good experience with Analytical and Problem-solving skills, flexible, willing to work to deliver Business Targets
