Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated Vehicle Mechanic to join our operations department . In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of vehicles, including cold trucks and DOC delivery trucks. The role focuses on timely preventive maintenance, efficient use and tracking of spare parts, and accurate reporting. The mechanic ensures all vehicles are in safe, roadworthy condition to support smooth operations and reduce downtime, while also supporting communication with the Logistics Supervisor and performing other assigned duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Timely Preventive Maintenance and Repairs (70%)
- Conduct scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance on all fleet vehicles to minimize breakdowns.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration faults for both diesel and petrol engines.
- Perform pre-trip inspections and support resolution of driver-reported issues before vehicle dispatch.
- Ensure cold trucks and DOC delivery trucks are roadworthy and meet specific operational standards (e.g., temperature control, good mechanical conditions).
- Respond to emergency breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime.
Inventory Management (20%)
- Monitor usage of spare parts and maintenance tools, ensuring proper storage and accountability.
- Raise timely requests for parts and materials to avoid service delays.
- Track and update stock levels of critical spares, lubricants, and repair materials.
- Support cost-efficient usage of materials by avoiding wastage and reporting recurring faults for long-term solutions.
Communication and Reporting (10%)
- Maintain accurate service logs for each vehicle, detailing repairs, parts used, and time spent.
- Submit daily or weekly maintenance reports to the Logistics Supervisor.
- Communicate urgent maintenance needs or delays to the relevant supervisors.
- Participate in regular fleet meetings and provide technical insights to improve vehicle performance.
Other Duties
- Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Logistics Supervisor .
Requirement Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Automotive Mechanics or Motor Vehicle Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience handling mixed fleets, including cold trucks and delivery vehicles.
- Experience with refrigeration systems and diesel engines is a strong advantage.
- A valid driver’s license is an added advantage.
